To do yoga you HAVE to touch your toes

Nah, not really.

In fact, if you can’t touch your toes then I insist you come and do some yoga.

More often than not when I’m talking to someone who’s never been to a class it’s the most common response I get. So I want to dispel that myth (along with lots of other teachers I’m sure) that you have to be flexible or bendy to do yoga.

Yoga is for everyone, old, young, bendy, not bendy. It’s more about removing the obstacles that are getting in the way of you touching your toes than actually being able to do it. You get me? Look at it as a doorway into feeling better!

See yoga as a way to feel better in your day to day life, it will help you feel less tense, more open and much better in yourself. I’ve been doing it for nearly 20 years now so I have seen many changes and benefits and really wouldn’t be banging on about it if it didn’t work. Yes when I first started I couldn’t touch my toes, now I can. But that doesn’t matter, it’s been all about teaching me so many tools to help with day to day living because let’s face it life can be bloody hard!

If you feel intimidated walking into a class then try doing some online or if you have a friend that’s a teacher, ask them to teach you some simple poses and see how you feel after doing some. Or get a 121 lesson with a local teacher (get a recommendation and do your research – I’m always happy to recommend teachers in your area. And of course I also offer 121 so if you’re in London or Sussex we can sort something out or there is always Skype).

Give yoga a go, you really don’t have to be flexible or feel like you have to ‘look’ a certain way. Get on a mat and see how much better you feel afterwards. Then let me know.
